About your teacher
SCIENCE-BASED METHODS
I keep up to date on the newest innovations
and best practices
in language teaching and learning.
I use techniques like Deep Practice, Active Recall,
and Differential Reinforcement to enhance learning.
MORE THAN ENGLISH
My mission as a youth educator is to contribute
to young people's agency
and empowerment
by teaching them advantageous skills,
attitudes, and strategies.
My day-to-day purpose and privilege
is to foment children's joy and self-esteem.
PERSONALIZED LEARNING
I favor the CLIL
and Reggio Emilia approaches to teaching.
Learning is easier when content is relevant,
and I invite my students to co-create their courses.
I recognize engagement and context
as crucial fundaments of learning.
MY LIFE SO FAR
I have spent most of my life teaching and caring for children, using creativity and understanding to support and guide them in a wide variety of settings.
I first started working with youth as a performer in children's theatre productions in the United States. I then branched into teaching acting and theater arts workshops to teens and tweens. Later, I worked as a caregiver at daycare centers while studying Early Childhood Education at City College of San Francisco. I then took a position as a teaching assistant at a local elementary school which I supplemented by working with school-age children in after-school and summer programs, teaching English, math, hands-on science, carpentry, theater arts, and puppetry. It was working at the summer camps at the YWCA in Chinatown San Francisco that I first had the opportunity to work within a child-led, project-based approach to education.
After moving to Barcelona in 2003, I obtained my TEFL qualification. Over the following years, I taught children, teenagers, and adults in a range of language academies and educational settings throughout Barcelona, including Kids&Us, FIAC, and Salt Idiomes. The training and experience I gained during those years has given me a broad and well-developed understanding of TEFL and of the many different ways in which people learn languages.
My work in charter schools has also been an important part of my professional experience. I spent one year working as a language assistant at Escola Pia in Sabadell, and seven years at Escola Joaquima de Vedruna in Terrassa. Working within mainstream education has strengthened my understanding of the needs of children and teenagers and reinforced my interest in working with young learners.
Over the years, I have increasingly recognized that working with children and teenagers is where my experience, creativity, and professional interests come together most naturally. I have now founded my own school to put my expertise to good use through a more pragmatic and flexible approach to English language learning: engaging, effective, and fun for students and teachers alike.
